Studies for Portrait

Value studies for a painting I should be starting on in a few months or so.

While these are not the poses that will be used in the final piece, careful study of the facial structure of the subject only strengthens the resulting painting.

Portrait Project

This was a fun portrait created some time ago for a great family. Below is the final piece as well as some preparatory work.

Achieving an accurate light and dark pattern is essential for a solid, believable form. Value studies are very helpful to work through many unforeseen problems. Color is always secondary to value.

If your values are accurate you can paint with pretty much
any color and it will still "look right".

Sunday Morning Sketches

These are sketches that were created on the iPad during Sunday school or in church.
I would attempt to reassure Eric that his sermons are quite interesting, but he's not reading this anyway.
